Ontario Renters Coalition for Fair Housing

Ontario Renters for Fair Housing is a growing coalition of well-organized and dedicated Tenant Associations. The organisation was established to bring together the voices of renters across Ontario to work toward shared objectives. For too long, renters have been pushed aside in the interests of large corporate landlords. This coalition aims to rebalance the tenant-landlord dynamic through organizing, knowledge sharing, and advocacy.

Our Objectives

Challenge policies that are financializing renters

We are working to re-center housing policy around people, not profit. In partnership with provincial advocates, we are challenging key drivers of rental instability—vacancy decontrol, above-guideline rent increases, and the 2018 rent control exemptions. Our shared goal is a fair, predictable rental system that upholds tenant rights, supports long-term community stability, and delivers housing security across Ontario.

Empower tenants and tenant associations

We work to elevate tenants and tenant associations as essential partners in shaping the places we live. With respect, resources, and supportive policies, renters can help drive local development, foster social networks, support local economies, and create safe, welcoming communities for everyone.

Our Mission

We work to improve tenant protections and housing outcomes by engaging directly with municipal, provincial, and federal decision-makers, while also addressing critical gaps in tenant knowledge and access to information. Through collaboration, shared expertise, and lived experience, we bring together the collective knowledge needed to strengthen tenant advocacy and influence meaningful policy change.

This is your coalition. By connecting well-organized and committed Tenant Associations across Ontario, we create a shared space to learn from one another, tackle common challenges, and build collective power. Together, we push for stronger financial safeguards, fairer housing policies, and better living conditions for renters in our communities.
